The Thursosurf Waterwalker is an all new design and it's once of the best looking boards for a beginner out there.

This inflatable SUP comes in three sizes but we recommend the larger, 11 foot size.  The reason is that the larger size is 32 inches wide whereas the the smaller model is 30 inches wide.  The slightly wider waist will help the board be more stable.

When you are a beginner it's a good idea to go with whatever can make your paddling experience easier, like a wider board, because your are more likely to have fun and to stick with the sport.

Also, the double layer construction, and carbon reinforced side rails, make this the strongest iSUP structure in the industry.  A super strong, stable board makes it more fun when you are new to the sport of stand up paddleboarding.

Some of the things that make this board great for beginners is that everything is included in the package.  The Waterwalker comes with a carbon shaft paddle, double chamber pump (this makes pumping your board up SO much easier!), roller backpack, 3 fins, and a coiled leash.

Everything you need to get out on the water in one simple package.

And finally, Thurso Surf backs up their product with a 2 Year Warranty.  That is peace of mine for a first time SUP buyer.

Atoll inflatable stand up paddleboard complete package in army green

What Makes This Paddle Board Stand Out

  • Inflatable
  • 32” wide
  • Lightweight at only 21 lbs
  • Utilizing Korean Drop Stitch technology for improved durability
  • Black Carbon Fiberglass Paddle with Nylon Blade

This inflatable from ATOLL is super sturdy and give you the confidence that you won’t fall, unlike cheaper boards. Unlike the other inflatables already listed, the ATOLL has a narrow tail, but with the 32 inches of width and the impressive rigidity for an inflatable, this is an ideal setup for a SUP beginner.

This board is really stable, which might have something to do with the logo of a Buffalo standing on a paddle board. You can load this board up with fishing gears by attaching to the 6 point bungee system on the front, or you can tool around with a passenger (holds up to 350 lbs total), and you’ll still have stability and ease of maneuverability.

This is one of the best all around paddle boards. It’s also great that the ATOLL comes with a 2 Year Manufactures Warranty.

Nautical paddle board package

  • Great beginners and riders of all shapes and size
  • Weight: 20 lbs
  • Inflatable
  • Length: 10'6" , Width 32"
  • Reasonably priced

  • 1 Year Manufacturer Warranty
  • Carbon enhanced side walls for unusual stability for an inflatable

The Nautical by iRocker is their entry level paddleboard, which allows you to get on the water quickly, easily, and affordably, which is great for beginners.

When you're just getting started with the sport of SUP, there's no need to break the bank with an expensive board.  That's one of the reasons why the Nautical is a great choice for a beginner, quality ride, without the expensive price tag.

But don't worry, the Nautical is still constructed in the same manner as all of iRocker's high quality products and comes with a 1-Year Manufacturer’s Warranty on all workmanship and materials.

For one low price you get iRocker's quality inflatable that is built very tough and won't dent or get damaged from normal use.  The Nautical has nice control, great design, awesome price, lightweight and is easily transportable.

The difference between the Nautical line and the more upscale lines from iRocker is that doesn't have carbon fiber in the paddle shaft (carbon fiber is expensive), the pump that is included has a single chamber instead of a dual chamber, and the backpack doesn't have wheels.

This is all reasonable because iRocker wanted to make a quality, yet affordable SUP.  To learn more about the differences in the iRocker brands, check out this interesting infographic they made on their brand comparison page.

Overall this is a really solid "entry level" package for a SUP.  With the Nautical you'll get a fun board that everyone can use, has room enough to attach a cooler, and is even dog friendly!

Tom Carroll outer reef sup

What Makes This Paddle Board Stand Out

  • Rigid board
  • Durable construction
  • Advanced hydrodynamic features
  • Premium design and build quality
  • Built for flat water and surf conditions

A lot of paddlers find that it is easier to get started on a rigid, or solid paddleboard.  That's why we're recommending the Outer Reef from Tom Carroll Paddle Surf (TCPS).

One of the reasons that this is such a great board for beginners is the level of attention to detail that went into the design of the Outer Reef.

The designers crafted the bottom or hull of this board to provide efficient water flow over a large surface area. This means the board has added stability without sacrificing flow or paddle efficiency.

The Outer Reef checks all the boxes a beginner will need.  It surfs the waves nicely, while also cruising over the flat spot of water just beautifully.

This SUP eliminates all the stuff you don't need which frees up the ride, allowing the board to move quickly on the waves while being easy to maneuver, with a great distribution throughout the board.

Overall the Outer Reef - MX is a fast, stable board, yet sensitive to the rider which makes it fun experience for beginners new to the sport of SUP.

What Makes This Paddle Board Stand Out

  • Sturdy build
  • All around board good for all skill levels
  • Rigid
  • All purpose design
  • Reasonably priced
  • Basically: wide, stable, and great to learn on

The ISLE Soft Top is a classic SUP that can handle a wide variety of people and skill levels. It is built using an epoxy core and adding a soft layer on top that is firm but also gripp-able with wet feet.

The Soft Top is designed to handle everything from small ocean waves to lakes to fishing in quite coves and is even a good platform for SUP yoga, if you want to test your stability on the water.

It comes equipped with a smaller 4 point bungee system in the front, which is great for most situations. If you are doing some gear intensive activity like fishing, you might need a larger 6 point bungee system, but for most applications, you’ll be fine with the 4 point system that comes on the Soft Top.

Carrying your Soft Top is easy with a standard center mounted carry handle. What makes this carry handle better than most is the pop up feature, so that when it’s not in use, it closes flush with the board.

The board has a single center fin, and at 31 inches wide and 27 pounds this durable construction means that you won’t have to worry about bumping and banging your board.  It can handle it.

The Cruiser Soft Top also comes with a Carbon adjustable paddle

This is one of the best all around stand up paddle boards you can get for the money.

top, side, and bottom view of the iRocker Cruiser package

What Makes This Paddle Board Stand Out

  • Inflatable
  • Very stable, 6 inches thick
  • Lightweight at only 25 lbs
  • 4 layer Military Grade PVC construction
  • Adjustable fiberglass paddle
  • Dual chamber triple action hand pump

This inflatable SUP is a little wider at 33 inches. Because of this it’s a bit more stable, which make it good, not only for beginners, but also for carrying another passenger, or bringing your dog on your paddle.

The extra width also makes this an ideal paddle board for doing yoga.

The iRocker Cruiser Inflatable is designed to comfortably hold up to 400 lbs, so they aren’t joking when they say it can take an extra passenger and all the gear that you could want.

I really like the backpack carrying bag. It’s nice when a carry or storage bag has wheels, but I prefer the backpack. Because of the backpack you can easily hike to a mountain stream, river, or lake, which is not practical with a roller bag.

The Cruiser is similar to a hard board in stability, at only half the weight, and comes with all the accessories included that you need to get on the water.

top, side, and bottom of isle versa sup in green with paddle

What Makes This Paddle Board Stand Out

  • Rigid, solid construction
  • Width: 32"
  • Weight: 27 lbs.
  • Eco-friendly epoxy
  • 60 day Ride & Love It GUARANTEE
  • Carbon hybrid adjustable SUP paddle

ISLE is one of the original builders of stand up paddle boards and they continue to make some of the best boards you can buy.

The Versa is a simple and reasonably priced board that is ideal for beginners.

This traditional rigid epoxy paddle board can be a bit easy for those of you new to the sport because a rigid doesn’t have the added bounce that comes with most inflatables and rigids tend to be very stable.

A possible downside of a rigid SUP compared to an inflatable is that these are a bit more delicate in that you can chip it or scratch it, like a traditional surfboard. This is not a big deal, just something to be aware of compared to an inflatable SUP.

I really like the foam deck pad. It’s wide and thick, so if you take a few extra falls when you’re starting out, it won’t hurt much. The foam pad also provides traction and confidence on the water.

Because this is a beginner paddle board it’s perfect for flat water, small waves, lakes or gentle rivers.

What Makes This Paddle Board Stand Out

  • Super lightweight @ 22 lbs.
  • Sizes 10’4” and 11’2”
  • RigidBeginner board
  • Premium design
  • Beautiful look

This board is awesome.  The Generator uses the best materials, design, and construction techniques and it shows.  This board excels in small to medium surf with good stability and maneuverability

The Generator has a flatter rocker design, which means it does well in flat to slightly choppy waters.  With a width of 32” and a depth of 4.4”, this board is designed more for stability than for speed

The board is constructed with natural wood fibers, carbon tail patches, that give it added strength while also maintaining a useful amount of flex.

The Generator has a standard 4 point bungee system and wider head and slimmer tail which makes it slip through water.  All around one of the best boards you can buy.

What Makes This Paddle Board Stand Out

  • Touring board
  • Durable construction
  • For mid to long range distance paddling
  • Affordable
  • Built for the whole family

The Promenade has a displacement hull and carries a lot of volume

One of the only downsides of this board is the weight.  At 34 lbs it is not the lightest board, but it is beefy.  You are not going to have to worry about it, this one can take a beating and be fine.

This board is great for touring or distance paddling.  It was made to with stand the abuse of being a rental board.  So if you are looking for a board for the whole family, and you don’t mind if friends or neighbors use it as well, because you know it’s going to hold up, then this is the board for you.

The Promenade is 11 ½ feet long and 32 inches wide.  It’s one of the thickest boards out there at 7.3 inches thick, which goes to durable go anywhere design.

A single center fin and 2 piece paddle is included.
